The Tanzanian government aims to meet growing food demand through crop intensification in the Kilombero floodplain. While this strategy may enhance regional production, it neglects variability in the resource base and thus may no longer meet the multiple demands of diverse actors. Variability in diverse attributes affect individual and larger scale risks and uncertainties. We employ disciplinary and integrated modelling approaches to understand dynamics linked to social-ecological transformations, spatial-temporal patterns and coupling and decoupling processes connected to crop intensification.
