Helper NLRs (hNLRs) are essential components of immunity induced by many sensor NLRs, some PRRs and for basal resistance. Our work has significantly contributed to broaden our understanding of hNLR activity, function, localization and regulation during plant immunity and auto-immunity. hNLRs might function as plasma membrane localized Ca2+ channels. We propose to elucidate the molecular determinants of hNLR membrane localization, identify hNLR interactors and examine unique and shared features of both NLR- and RK/RP-triggered (auto-)immunity. We will further determine the molecular mechanisms underlying the suppression of hNLR (ADR1-L2D484V) autoimmunity by bkk1.
