Modelling of physiological bioenergetics and global biogeography of the Roseobacter group (C07*)

Subject Area Microbial Ecology and Applied Microbiology
Term from 2018 to 2021
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 34509606

Project Description

This project combines mathematical modelling and synthetic data-analysis to investigate the ecophysiological principles underlying the habitat success of Roseobacter representatives, their interaction with other heterotrophic bacteria, microalgae and phages, and the consequences for the biogeography, diversity and quantitative significance of the Roseobacter group in the global ocean. The investigations connect different levels of biological organization, from the physiological properties of the individual organism in close connection to defined cultivation experiments all the way up to global populations and community biogeography and diversity of the Roseobacter group.
