Project Description

This project focuses on basic model systems of ultrafast spintronics, which are nanostructures composed of ferro- (or ferri-)magnetic metal (FM) and anti-ferromagnetic oxide (AFM) layers separated by “normal”-metal (NM) spacers. We will investigate ultrafast spin transport by means of electron and magnon spin currents, optical generation of ultrashort spin-current pulses, and the spin dynamics excited by these pulses via spin torques at interfaces. We aim to reveal the fundamental processes caused by the exchange-mediated interaction at FM/NM, FM/AFM, and NM/AFM interfaces on ultrafast time scales, including the conversion of electron- into magnon-type spin currents and vice versa in systems containing AFM layers.
