Ultrafast spin dynamics and its signature in the transient electronic structure (A01)

Subject Area Experimental Condensed Matter Physics
Term since 2018
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 328545488

Project Description

We perform time-resolved photoemission spectroscopy of magnetic thin-film structures to unravel ultrafast spin-dependent electron dynamics and map the transient electronic band structure after femtosecond laser excitation. In work package 1, we use a back-pump/front-probe scheme in combination with spin-resolved photoelectron detection to analyze spin-dependent transport across interfaces of magnetic bi- and trilayers and the emerging transient spin polarization. In work package 2, we use higher-order harmonic radiation to study the signature of angular momentum transfer and magnetization switching in the electronic structure of transition- and rare earth metal heterostructures.
