The role of local tumor barrier function for tumor cell plasticity, invasion and metastasis of colorectal cancer (C11*)
Subject Area

Hematology, Oncology
Hematology, Oncology
Term
from 2018 to 2021
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 89986987
Previous work of the applicants had shown that the microbiome emerged as a major regulator of colorectal carcinogenesis. To understand this interaction in more detail, they will explore how the tumor barrier functionality and the microbiota are involved in the regulation of EMT and metastasis formation in colorectal cancer. Thus, they will analyze the impact of infiltrating immune cells and the gut flora on both the tumor microenvironment and tumor cell intrinsic signaling events to understand the initiation of pre-metastatic niche formation that leads to EMT and metastasis in colorectal cancer.
