Nucleosome positions within nucleosome arrays are determined by an interplay of nucleosome-nucleosome interactions, DNA sequence-dependent nucleosome stability, and active chromatin remodeling. Here, we study how the observed nucleosome gas statistics can robustly emerge from the underlying mechanisms, and how these mechanisms permit the rapid re-establishment of nucleosome arrays after they have been disrupted, e.g. during DNA replication. We will employ combinations of methods from statistical and soft-matter physics.
