Nonlinear coupling of interlayer excitons in van der Waals heterostructures to plasmonic and dielectric nanocavities (A08)

Subject Area Experimental Condensed Matter Physics
Term from 2018 to 2025
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 231447078

Project Description

The main focus of project A08 is on interlayer excitons trapped in the controllable superlattices that naturally arise in Moiré patterns. We will study the behavior of interlayer excitons as single-photon emitters, and how it is influenced by their quantum confinement and by the orientation of their electric dipole. Then, we will explore strategies to increase the quantum yield of single-photon emitters by optimizing their electric dipole and by coupling them to plasmonic/dielectric nanocavities. These studies will be performed by combining photoemission electron spectroscopy, cryogenic micro-photoluminescence spectroscopy and correlation measurements.
