Using individual-based models that include aspects of game theory and genetic algorithms, we will examine conditions leading to the maintenance of multiple niches within populations. We selected three general scenarios for these models: aggressive and costly resource monopolization, exploitation competition in a species that preys upon deceptive mimics, and costly signalling in mate choice. Likewise, we will examine three specific scenarios in collaboration with projects C04, A03 and B07.
