High-resolution analysis of membrane domain formation during neuronal polarization (B03)

Subject Area Developmental Biology
Term since 2018
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 386797833

Project Description

Neurons are highly polarized cells that establish molecularly and functionally distinct axonal and somato-dendritic compartments. The extension of an axon requires the expansion of the plasma membrane by the exocytosis of specialized vesicles. This depends on the exocyst complex that tethers them at the plasma membrane of the growth cone prior to their fusion. We will investigate the role of GTPases, lipid modifying enzymes and their phospholipid products for membrane expansion and their regulation by the localization to lipid domains.
