Arteries are critical for organ perfusion and are implicated in numerous cardiovascular diseases, but we are only beginning to understand the cellular and molecular mechanisms mediating artery formation during development and regeneration. Here, we will use a combination of mouse genetics, imaging and in vitro assays to analyze how intercellular and intracellular signaling platforms control arterial fate specification, arteriovenous (AV) endothelial cell segregation, and other aspects of artery growth and patterning.
