Along this research project different approaches dealing with the efficient synthesis and the regio- and enantioselective (poly)fuctionalization of heptacyclo [6.6.0.02,6.03,13.04,11.05,9.010,14]tetradecane (HCTD) are proposed. Given the structural relationship between HCTD and adamantane derived cages, in particular diamantane, and the number of applications that these compounds have found in areas as diverse as medicinal chemistry or material science; it is envisaged that functionalized HTDC might also be interesting building blocks for the modification of drugs or the design of mechanochemical devices. In case of success, this research project will open an expeditious entry to these structures. Finally, we plan to preliminary test their practical utility.
