Conjugated porous polymers with porphyrin dyes for heterogeneous photocatalytic applications under visible light

Applicant Dr. Calum Ferguson, since 7/2020
Subject Area Polymer Materials
Term from 2018 to 2021
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 390757893

The treatment of wastewaters before their release is of crucial importance to minimize the impact of used waters on the environment. Among the different procedures used to treat wastewater before their release, solar photocatalysis represents a promising approach to eliminate organic pollutants from water. The aim of this project is to design and evaluate pure organic polymeric photocatalysts based on porphyrin-containing conjugated porous polymers for wastewater treatment under continuous flow. A special emphasis is paid to the development of low energy light-active materials. This project will allow the utilization of environmentally more friendly and sustainable photocatalytic systems for water treatment applications.
