This proposal ('Kleinantrag') is interconnected with an approved interdisciplinary and interlinked project within the German ICDP priority program in order to study a sediment drill core from the former paleo-Lake Idaho in mid-latitude North America. In this framework project the paleoclimatic potential of the core shall be explored. The Idaho-core offers a unique opportunity to study the warm Pliocene period, the Pliocene-Pleistocene transition, and the initiation of the northern hemisphere glaciation in the continental North America - all in the same archive. Establishment of a high-quality age control is crucial for the success of the ICDP framework project. This proposal applies the necessary complementary funding to carry out the paleomagnetic work for magnetostratigraphic dating. For this purpose, the applicant of Tübingen University will closely cooperate with the principle investigators of the ICDP project at the Universities of Heidelberg and Cologne.
