Circular discrimination and manipulation of transient molecules by Coulomb explo-sion and photoelectron diffraction (B01)

Subject Area Optics, Quantum Optics and Physics of Atoms, Molecules and Plasmas
Term since 2018

Project Description

Goals of this project are the handedness determination of a-/pro-/chiral molecules by a combination of elec-tron diffraction, utilizing low and high energetic electrons, with Coulomb explosion. At first we will develop our toolbox further, investigating static chiral molecules. In a second step we will apply these methods on transient molecules. Such molecules quickly oscillate between their two enantiomers between left to right handed form. Some are already chiral and others we aim to manipulate to induce chirality starting from an achiral planar structure.
