The oxygen isotope composition of bioapatite is partly controlled by the composition of respired air. Air oxygen carries a distinct 17O isotope anomaly that is function of the atmospheric CO2 concentration. Here we propose calibrating this new paleo-CO2-barometer by analysing bioapatite of a set recent eutheria and marsupia. The results will be applied to bioapatite data from meso- and cenozoic early mammal.
