Ultrashort magnon pulses and phonon-magnon interactions
Final Report Abstract
The main goals of the present project were (i) investigation of the generation and propagation of laser-induced magnon pulses and their interaction with acoustic pulses in different ferromagnetic materials and (ii) development of the experimental technique with multiple optical pump pulses to control the shape and duration of the magnon pulses. As a first step of the project, optical pump-probe experiments have been performed on different ferromagnetic materials and their alloys. These measurement demonstrates how material-specific parameters affect the generation and propagation of magnon pulses. Moreover, it has been shown that these parameters can be gradually adjusted by the doping with rare-earth metals. As the second step, we have performed pump-probe experiments with a train of several pump pulses in order to demonstrate that one can coherently control not only the homogeneous precession of the magnetization, but also higher non-uniform spin wave modes.
