The dry classification of industrially relevant powder quantities is dominated in the fine particles range by the decflection wheel separator, which provides even at high loadings cut sizes of a few microns. In the present project, it is intended to shift the cut size further down, increasing the sharpness of cut at the same time, and to combine the aerodynamic classification in the fine particle range with a material specific sorting based on the triboelectric charging. In the first period, a new high speed classifier and a novel rotational sorting apparatus were constructed and characterized as well as the understanding of the particle motion and the triboelectric charging was improved, which should be further deepened within the remaining year. In the second period, a continuous process with high classification and sorting sharpness will be established. To do so, in particular the mechanism of bipolar triboelectric charging, which even occurs within a given size class of the same material, needs to be elucidated and technically treated in a way that a multidimensional separation according to size and material can be realized.
