One of the biggest challenges for the EASE research enterprise is hand manipulation in everyday manipulation tasks. Subproject R05 approaches the research problem of equipping robot agents with such flexible hand manipulation capabilities from two directions: (1) bottom-up investigation of robotic hand manipulation capabilities by designing a hand manipulation executive and (2) top-down by designing a plan and action executive that can learn, retrieve and adapt candidate hand manipulation plan schemata obtained through the observation of human demonstrations.
