The project aims at the investigation of structural, magnetic and electric properties of MnAs/GaAs and MnAs/InAs hybrid nanowire structures with well-defined cluster properties. The hybrid structures are fabricated by selective-area metal organic vapor phase epitaxy (SA-MOVPE) of InAs or GaAs nanowires. In a second growth step the ferromagnetic MnAs nanoclusters are formed during an endotaxy process on the facets of the nanowires, whereas the cluster properties can be tuned systematically by varying the growth conditions. The influence of the nanoclusters as well as of co-doping on the electrical properties of the hybrid nanowires is investigated using magnetotransport and Seebeck measurements and the results are correlated with the structural and magnetic properties of the MnAs nanoclusters. Major goal of the project is to obtain a fundamental understanding of the influence of the nanoclusters on the underlying mesoscopic transport processes and to evaluate the potential of such hybrids for future application in the field of nano-magnetoelectronics and nano-spintronics.
