Structure and dynamics eukaryotic 80S ribosomes during the elongation phase of protein synthesis (A03)

Subject Area Structural Biology
Term from 2007 to 2018
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 25065445

Project Description

In project A03 the ribosomal elongation cycle in eukaryotes will be structurally analyzed using high-resolution single-particle cryo-EM. The ribosome exemplifies functional modules that are organized as macromolecular machines. Structural dynamics governed by a tuneable energy landscape facilitates ribosomal function. To obtain the structural foundation of the eukaryotic ribosomal elongation cycles at the molecular level in vitro assembled ribosomal complexes as well as ex vivo derived polysomes will be investigated. Moreover, this will reveal some general principles about the inner workings of macromolecular machines.
