Project Description

Laser ablation of metals and covalent materials is simulated with a program which combines a two-temperature-model based on a continuum description with atomistic molecular dynamics simulations. The program shall be refined to yield more precise simulations and to achieve experimentally realizable probe dimensions. The performance of the program shall be improved, analysis tools shall be integrated directly into the simulations, and visualization during runtime will be implemented. Materials from several subprojects of the SFB shall be studied and compared to experiments carried out at the Institut für Strahlwerkzeuge.
