Based on N-heteroaromatic ligands we recently succeeded in the stabilization and isolation of unusual molecular anionic organotinderivatives. The stabilization is achieved by an effective intramolecular coordination of the respective counter-ions. This concept of intramolecular coordination will be further employed to enable a defined and stepwise design of corresponding catenated tin compounds. Thus, the project comprises two major topics, including (i) the exploration of both synthetic routes and the possibility of conversion for small mono- or dianionic target molecules, e.g. stannylstannates and distannides, and (ii) the accessibility of larger intermetalloid cluster compounds through distannides and investigations towards their reactivity.
