Protein quality control and ECM composition: Role of the hexosamine pathway in skin homeostasis (B14*)

Subject Area Dermatology
Term from 2017 to 2020
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 73111208

Project Description

In this project we will find out if modulation of the hexosamine pathway is a viable route to improve skin homeostasis. We have shown that activation of the hexosamine pathway improves protein folding and enhances the production of essential ECM components. We aim to reach a molecular understanding of the relevant changes in the skin regarding regeneration, wound healing, protection from fibrosis, and stem cell dynamics.
