To fulfil the requirements of future measurement systems in the THz regime, a reference source with a so-far unreached combination of phase noise, bandwidth, and chirp linearity is necessary. Therefore, this project is concerned with a reference chirp synthesizer in the microwave regime. Besides the unique combination of sapphire and yttrium-iron-garnet based oscillators, an offset PLL concept with switched LO frequency is investigated. This band switching enables the generation of wideband chirps without an in-loop frequency division and thus the lowest possible phase noise. To counteract the introduced linearity and phase errors, a method to determine the deterministic errors and compensate for them is investigated.
