Project Details
Multiscale electron microscope characterization of hardening and damage mechanisms (B04)
Subject Area
Mechanical Properties of Metallic Materials and their Microstructural Origins
Term
since 2017
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 278868966
Gaining a fundamental understanding of the microstructural mechanisms leading to ductile damage and subsequently to failure is the goal in the next stage of this project. Interfaces between the material and inclusions or secondary phases as well as the direct vicinity of the pores once damage has been initiated will be analyzed using high-resolution electron microscope methods. In addition to the case hardening steel 16MnCrS5 used in mass forming, these methods will also be used to investigate the sheet metal DP800.
