The space of light rays of a physically reasonable spacetime carries a canonical contact structure discovered by Roger Penrose. The aim of the project is to study the interplay between the Lorentz geometry of the spacetime and the contact topology of its space of light rays for globally hyperbolic and causally simple spacetimes.
