Subject Area
Theoretical Chemistry: Electronic Structure, Dynamics, Simulation
Term
from 2017 to 2024
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 281029004
Our scientific project explores novel techniques to utilize electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS) for the correlated imaging of morphology and electronic properties of molecules and materials. On the basis of our new understanding of transmission EM EELS with momentum transfer at low electron energies, we develop EELS now also for the scanning electron microscope (SEM) at maximum momentum transfer (backscattering electrons) and ultra-low electron energies. Our SEM prototype also allows the spectroscopy of secondary electrons, which we use for the direct imaging of the surface potential. Exploiting this possibility, we will explore local charge mobility by direct imaging.
