The project studies the role of firms as drivers of technological, societal and economic change. The work in the third funding period is largely empirical and will (i) extend the earlier focus on superstar firms to understand causes and consequences of increased market concentration on innovation, growth, and welfare, (ii) study behavioral aspects of human interaction with new technologies, artificial intelligence and digital markets, and (iii) study how the organization of knowledge flows within and across scientific organizations relates to frictions in the market for technology, e.g., via institutions like bankruptcy laws and patent systems.
