The Specialised Information Service Linguistics (FID Linguistik) is a central service facility for the studies of general and comparative linguistics and the linguistics of single languages at German universities as well as at non-university research institutions. The main objective of the FID Linguistik is the nationwide information supply for study and research. The FID’s information platform is the Linguistik portal: a web-based specialised portal providing a unified interface for domain-specific, scientific resources. These include print media, digital publications, scientific online resources as well as research data. The current and planned development focuses on research data and includes efforts to improve the search for research data and enhance their visibility and accessibility, e.g., by means of automatic assignment of content-related metadata. Important steps in this direction are the interlinking of the Linguistik portal with Linked Open Data (LOD) and the enhancement of the search functionality thus made possible. To this end, the terminology used within the portal has been modelled according to Semantic Web standards and actively linked to relevant repositories. Furthermore, the data model of the entire portal has been transformed to a uniform Linked Data format, so that a joint, semantically enriched search index has been established for all modules. The FID plans to continue the interlinking and enhance the LOD-based search. As part of the FID project, the visibility of research data and, above all, of language corpora will be increased by linking secondary literature with research data, electronic dictionaries and corpus-linguistic tools (in the form of authority records). An important objective of FID Linguistik is to cover the scientific literature as comprehensively as possible. To this end, catalogues of special libraries and metadata selections from portals of other Specialised Information Services will be imported in the search index. An additional focus will be the coverage of small and endangered languages. The FID plans also to provide supra-regional licences for commercial language corpora, journals of corpus linguistics, and selected highly specialised databases. The range of FID services will be completed by measures aimed at strengthening the open access infrastructure: improving the search for linguistically relevant open access publications by the implementation of a full-text search, organisational support and hosting of e-journals as well as implementation of additional features for the applied software. FID Linguistik will also actively contribute to the entire supra-regional system of Specialised Information Services and participate in national research data initiatives.
