Zusammenfassung der Projektergebnisse

The work performed in the frame of this project had two main facets as described in the proposal: the development of efficient methods and software tools to handle FCD on the one hand and the derivation of characteristic values for the assessment of the level of service at road facilities on the other hand. Though a significant effort was required to accommodate both objectives by one researcher the achievments and results in both facets were satisfactory and encouraging for further research as claimed in the proposal. In particular, the research support software “fansi-tool” has been already adopted by other researchers of the institute for other purposes than traffic performance estimation (e.g. Origin- Demand estimation, urban delivery logistics, agent-based simulation validation, etc.) and was extended successfully to be used with smartphone data, paving the way to extend the methods to other modes than automobile traffic. On the other side, the scientific findings concerning traffic performance estimation are expected to complement the guidelines for the evaluation of road traffic facilities. It therefore represents a valuable contribution to the state of the art in traffic engineering thus responding to a real need of traffic planners and engineers.
