In November, 2014 the historical music publishers’ archive of B. Schott’s Söhne, Mainz had been sold to a consortium including the Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin Preußischer Kulturbesitz, the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek and six German music research institutions. The archive comprises music manuscripts and sheet music of more than 43.100 Schott-publications, as well as documents, many thousands of letters and books from the accounts mainly from the 18th to mid-20th centuries. Many of the sources have previously been focused on in several research projekts. The aim of the second funding phase of the project is the contionuous cataloguing and digitization of the most important and largest components of the Schott publishing archive (letters up to 1855, printed music and music manuscripts up to 1853) in the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek and the presentation of all sources from both project phases (Bayerische Staatsbibliothek and Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin) in the „Schott Portal“ which is being developed and made available at the Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin - Preußischer Kulturbesitz. It is intended to enable a virtual consolidation of the holdings distributed across different locations.
