Applicant Professor Dr. Gerhard Kramer
Subject Area Electronic Semiconductors, Components and Circuits, Integrated Systems, Sensor Technology, Theoretical Electrical Engineering
Term from 2016 to 2024
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 320729232

Project Description

The renewal project will explore the following topics for fiber-optic communication: (1) the design of transmitters for nonlinear interference (NLI) models for fiber; (2) information theory for Space-Division Multiplexing (SDM); (3) information theory of nonlinear frequency division multiplexing (NFDM) for SDM. The goals are to develop an understanding of (1) transmission strategies that minimize the NLI; (2) the capacity of SDM optical systems; (3) the applicability of the nonlinear Fourier transform (NFT) to SDM systems.
