Within TWIST we want to investigate the complex fundamental physics of topologically protected magnetic structures - skyrmions - with the ultimate aim of paving the way to new spintronic applications. A successful plan towards technology-based on skyrmion spintronics comprises three pillars - designing materials, efficiently controlling the properties of skyrmions, and building devices - resting on a thorough knowledge and deep understanding of the underlying fundamental physics and mechanisms. We illustrate this in the mindmap in Fig. 1 which outlines the structure of this proposal. In this proposal, we have extended the project by four subprojects, which fit into the concept of TWIST. Those are assigned to the three pillars and the basis part correspondingly.
