Direct determination of effective temperatures for calibrators in the Gaia mission and the Gaia-ESO-Survey
Final Report Abstract
In order to exploit the large amount of data, a known scale based on a very well-studied sample of reference stars has to be established. This set of reference stars allows us to correctly and precisely calibrate and cross-calibrate data collected by large spectroscopic surveys. This study aims at collecting such a set of reference stars. The most important scientific progress in this program is the collection of the first set of reference stars. This is extremely difficult to accomplish due to the challenging aspects of interferometric observations. It is crucial that the basic properties of these reference stars. are measured with the highest possible precision. Many international teams are involved in the conduction of large stellar surveys. All past, current as well as planned spectroscopic surveys need reliable reference scale, therefore, the results from this study will be highly beneficial for all spectroscopic teams worldwide.
