Internal tides (ITs) form an essential part of IGWs. In the previous phases, we investigated IGWs, quantified ITs, and started examining the influence of mesoscale eddies on ITs using high-resolution numerical models and observations. In the third phase, we will extend this investigation. The output of this subproject, namely an improved understanding of energy transfer between mesoscale eddies and ITs, a synthesis on IT generation, and a numbered energy budget for the SONETT region, will lead to an improved understanding of the ocean's energetics and can be useful for IGW parameterizations, also for the community outside the CRC.
