Project B06 aims is to elucidate how individual differences in cognitive effort investment modulate dynamic adjustments of meta-control parameters. To this end, we will use sequential decision-making tasks, which require forward planning and effortful actions to reach goals in uncertain, dynamic environments. A computational model of task behavior based on the active inference framework will serve as the basis for model-based fMRI to link meta-control processes to underlying brain systems. By integrating individual differences into computational models, we expect to improve the prediction of individual behavior and to gain a deeper understanding of the role of personality traits in meta-control processes.
