Systematic multi-scale modelling and analysis for geophysical flow ((02) M02)

This subproject studies mathematical aspects of oceanic subgrid scale modelling in the CRC context. A particular focus lies on the interactions of resolved and unresolved scales in discrete modelling of oceanic flows, and how these can be represented in a mathematically consistent, quantitatively correct, and numerically stable way. We will integrate mathematical analysis of partial differential equations, multi-scale finite element methods, and various machine learning approaches to advance ocean parameterisations.
