Project Details
Myth and Heroization Processes: Hans Blumberg (D13*)
Subject Area
Roman Catholic Theology
Term
from 2016 to 2020
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 181750155
The goal of the project is to apply Hans Blumenberg¿s interdisciplinary theory of myth to heroization processes. This will involve conducting a productive critical analysis of this theory and making the results available to the SFB on the one hand and investigating divergent figurations of the heroic of the 19th/20th century in European modernism on the other. As in Blumberg's theory, which will serve as the main point of reference in all areas of the project, historical studies will be linked to questions of normativity and ethics. In so doing, the suproject will work on the assumption that it is only possible to reach an adequate understanding of these refigurations with reference to the collapse of religious certainties.
