Project Description

Project E3 investigates the transformations in the interrelation between humans and landscape between the Archaic and Hellenistic periods (7th to 1st centuries BCE) in the Eastern Mediterranean (esp. Greece, lower Italy, and Asia Minor). In Phase 2, the perspective will be broaden with respect to region and period, and the theoretical framework. The project will analyses conceptualization, manipulation and shaping of the landscape via ancient theoretical and especially mathematical means, including architecture as material proxy. The textual sources will aid in understanding of the perspective Greek culture took with regard to human-landscape interaction and its transformations over time.
