Project C2 investigates the social and environmental consequences of settlement agglomeration and dispersion within early farming communities of the LBK and Lengyel periods in the Žitava-Valley in Slovakia. In Phase 2, the project will concentrate on the settlement abandonment after the LBK period and explore the subsequent dispersal of social groups connected to the transition from latest LBK to early Lengyel material culture. Furthermore, the role of long-distance communication networks will be explored. These social and environmental transformations will be investigated by archaeological, geophysical, archaeobotanical and palaeoecological methods.
