Anglo-Norman historiography in the 11th and 12th century is very varied and rich and for this reason we can detect ways in which the king's rule was thought about and discussed. In the sub-project we will focus on the method and the effect of the quite frequent "scolding of tyrants". The criticism directed at the ruler shows us how ruler and ruled were in a discourse and negotiated Macht and Herrschaft. We will get insights into how royal Herrschaft was criticised at all, which methods were especially criticised and if the criticism had influence on the ruler's decisions and strategies of legitimisation.
