Selective biomarkers for right heart hypertrophy and failure and their functional analysis in a human stem cell model (B07)

Subject Area Cardiology, Angiology
Term since 2016
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 268555672

We recently identified promising biomarkers that discriminate pulmonary hypertension (PH)-related adaptive right ventricular (RV) hypertrophy from maladaptive RV failure in a project-specific human biobank. In addition, results from RNA-sequencing analysis of human RV biopsies from PH patients provided highly regulated genes that also correlated with clinical parameters. Our results will now be further related to the established clinical, imaging, and functional parameters in PH patients that are of diagnostic and prognostic interest. In addition, we aim to further investigate patient-specific PH stem cell models to identify a genetic predisposition for maladaptive RV function in PH and to demonstrate individual cardiac, endothelial and cardiac fibroblast contributions to RV dysfunction.
