The role of HIF-1 and its regulators p53 and Smyd2 in right ventricular hypertrophy and failure (B04)

Subject Area Anatomy and Physiology
Term from 2016 to 2024
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 268555672

Project Description

This project aims to investigate the role and interplay of Hypoxia Inducible Factor-1 (HIF-1), the tumor suppressor p53, the Bone Morphogenic Protein Receptor type II (BMPR2) and the methyltransferase Smyd2 in cardiac endothelial cells (cECs) and cardiomyocytes (CMs) by gain- and loss-of-function experiments. The impact of cell (cEC, CM)-specific overexpression and knockdown of HIF-1α, p53, Bmpr2 and Smyd2 in early adaptive and late maladaptive RV remodeling will be analyzed in mice undergoing pulmonary artery banding surgery. The ultimate goal is to understand the role of these proteins in RV remodeling aiming to develop novel treatment strategies.
