Sensing and signaling events underlying development and recovery of hypoxia-induced pulmonary hypertension (A06)

Subject Area Pneumology, Thoracic Surgery
Term since 2016
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 268555672

Based on our previous results, this project aims to investigate the molecular mechanisms underlying acute oxygen sensing by the mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit 4 isoform 2(Cox4i2), which is essential for hypoxic pulmonary vasoconstriction. We will investigate interaction partners of Cox4i2, as well as further mitochondrial oxygen sensitive components. Furthermore, we will investigate the relevance of decreased mitochondrial reactive oxygen species and ferroptosis for development of chronic hypoxia-induced pulmonary hypertension. Potential reverse remodeling strategies previously identified on the molecular level will be verified in different in vivo mouse models.
