The project ChirIL Fun is concerned with the development of novel chiral functionalised ionic liquids and aims at a general understanding of the control mechanism in catalytic systems on a molecular and physico-chemical level. Interactions between dissolved organic compounds and the ionic liquid are essential for a chirality transfer from the chiral solvent onto the substrate. A characterisation and quantification of these interactions will be achieved by the use of organocatalysis, transition metal catalysis and nanocatalysis as molecular probes. A quantification of the interactions between the substrate and the ionic liquid will be supported by the results from NMR and IR spectroscopic measurements. In the long term, these fundamental studies will contribute to a rational approach to asymmetric catalysis in chiral ionic liquid media.
