Spin+Magnon Control: Macroscopic quantum state magnonics (B04)

Subject Area Experimental Condensed Matter Physics
Term since 2016
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 268565370

Project Description

Project B04 addresses the fundamental properties of magnon gases and Bose-Einstein condensates in dynamic magnetic media with a long-term perspective toward novel magnonic devices. Specifically, we will exploit a two-component BEC formed by magnons with opposite wavevectors in planarly magnetized ferrimagnetic films. We will employ an innovative method to create and detect this dual BEC with microfabricated phased arrays and control it via magnetically, optically and acoustically induced magnonic crystals. By varying the magnetization conditions of the films, we will master control over the nonlinear properties of the magnon BEC, its stability, coherence length, and the degree of its vorticity.
