Dissecting the clonal hierarchy in MDS and involvement of the niche in the transition to secondary AML (A09)

Subject Area Hematology, Oncology
Developmental Biology
Term from 2016 to 2020
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 278529602

Project Description

Myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) are characterized by ineffective hematopoiesis and frequent transformation to AML. How mutations in hematopoietic stem cells (HSC) alter proliferation, differentiation, and cell death, and the role of the bone marrow niche in disease progression is currently unresolved. We will now analyze MDS progression at single cell resolution, identify new pathways for drug intervention, quantify niche heterogeneity, and integrate our data into computational models to identify mechanisms of disease evolution.
