Project Details
Manufacturing of CVD diamond coated tools with high process stability
Subject Area
Metal-Cutting and Abrasive Manufacturing Engineering
Term
from 2016 to 2020
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 289861565
The objective of this research project is the manufacturing of CVD diamond coated tools with high process stability. The influencing factors on the tool lifetimes of CVD diamond coated tools has been the research focus in a fundamental research project of the Institute for Machine Tools and Factory Management (IWF) of TU Berlin. The results of the preceding project showed that the complex interaction of cemented carbide substrate, pre-treatment, tool geometry and coating thickness as well as in particular the residual stresses of substrate and coating must be understood and optimized in order to produce a high coating adhesion. Within this transfer project, the fundamental research results obtained shall be implemented with three partner firms, each specialized in one step of the production process. Furthermore, the spectrum of CVD diamond coated tools shall be widened by focusing also on ceramic tools and Multi-Layer CVD diamond coatings.
