Project Details
Impact of low-level clouds and surface conditions on Arctic atmospheric boundary layer turbulence and radiation (A03)
Subject Area
Atmospheric Science
Term
since 2016
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 268020496
We investigate energy fluxes in the lower Arctic atmosphere (boundary layer) and quantify the impact of clouds, surface types, and the seasonal dependence on the fluxes based on airborne (AC )3 campaigns. In phase III, simplified schemes (parameterizations) for the calculation of mixing by turbulent eddies will be further developed. The parameterizations will be improved using detailed information of new technologies such as an airborne sonde allowing turbulence measurements down to 15 m above the surface and an airborne scanner, measuring thermal infrared radiation.
